Conversation

The challenges of an aging workforce in Ontario's automotive sector have heightened the importance of attracting, training and retaining new talent to expand a skilled workforce. Barriers to labour market access, education and skills training have exacerbated this challenge.

The APMA’s EDI Fund addresses the issue head on. Our goal is to build attraction and develop a new talent pipeline that will construct pathways to historically excluded groups such as youth, women, newcomers and racialized communities. The EDI Fund will support employers and community partners in their efforts to access, train and retain meaningful employment for new hires.

Building on the success of our first round of 800 participants, the next round will support an additional 500 participants with up to $8,000 in supports available to employers and community partners. Participants will have a minimum 3-month placement resulting in on-the-job experience, upskilling and career development.

The APMA’s EDI Fund is a proud recipient of the Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement (CADIA) Impact Awards – Champion for Diverse Talent. Recognized for raising up, developing, advancing or advocating for diverse talent.
The EDI Fund runs from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. We are currently accepting employer applications.

Participant applications are now closed.
